I had the house powerwashed and painted 4 years ago. They are wood shingles. There is dirt and mold on all sides of the house, not too bad but definitely noticable. Also, the paint is peeling off. I read you did not recommend powerwashing on vinyl siding. What about on wood shingles? Can not get up on a ladder to do it myself, have chemical allergies and am hard pressed for cash. Any suggestions to help me. I need to sell the house to get one that has everything on one floor because of severe osteoporosis of the spine and don't know what to do about the outside. Please help. Thanks.

Power washing can be damaging if the pressure isn't controlled properly. Shingles can ripped right off the house or can be cracked or loosened. Water can be driven into the wall cavity. Caulking can be ripped off around windows, etc.. Used correctly, they can be great tools.

Mold on the siding and paint peeling off after only 4 years tells me that possibly the prep for the paint job wasn't done properly and possibly the right paint, ie. with mold inhibitors was not used....or you could have a large amount of moisture going thru your walls from inside to outside. Yours are some symptoms of this. vapour barriers are supposed to help prevent this….do you have a vapour barrier in your house. If you don’t, don’t panic. A vapour barrier can be created by painting your walls and ceilings with a vapour barrier type paint. I would recommend a latex vapour barrier, primer sealer. There is also the possibility of this being cuased by moisture getting behind the shingles from the outside but this doesn’t sound like it here.
