Aspergillus is one of the worst common molds. Stachybotrys, known as the black mold, is one of the worst toxic molds.

Other common toxic molds are Penicillium, Alternaria, and Cladosporium.

All these molds mentioned produce mycotoxins which are allergens causing allergic reactions to varying degrees in some people. These reactions can be mild such as sneezing or a runny nose to asthma and even anaphylactic shock (muscle contractions and capillary dilation) which can be fatal.

An allergic reaction is a reaction of the bodies immune system to allergens.

There are thousands of types of molds with most being harmless to humans and most having some beneficial use.

Allergens are anything that can cause an allergic reaction. As such some foods can be allergens as well as some medicines and only to some people. Same thing with molds.

Other common allergens which affect some people to varying degrees are: pollens, home dust mites, animal dander, latex rubber, insect venom.
