#799 - 03/16/05 01:25 AM How can I be sure mold is prevented?
Anonymous Unregistered

Mold was clearly identified during inspection today in the basement of a new construction I need to close on by 3/31.
I'm expecting written inspection reports in the morning and it appears as if the builder will work with me. Provided that the builder covers the professional clean-up, how can I be sure that the problem is truly taken care of (and not say, lurking in the hvac) and won't re-appear in a few months?
I do have allergies and was definitely affected after spending 20 minutes in the affected area.
The inspector recommended a dehumidifier and a battery backup on the sump pump after the problem is solved for prevention.
At this point, I'm wondering if I should just walk away (contract permitting), losing a 5K downpayment, but avoiding a potentially larger problem. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Don't want to tell you to walk away, but if the seller is cleaning up the mold, the remediation contractor will supply a Clearance Test performed by a 3rd party.

Clearance meaning that the home is free of mold.

We actively purchase homes with mold problems and take the clearance test seriously.

MAKE SURE THAT THE CLEARANCE IS DONE BY A THIRD PARTY NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMEDIATOR!
