Anonymous Unregistered

My newborn son and I moved into our new apartment not checking it out before moving our stuff in. After I moved all of my stuff in I noticed mold in my bathroom. I tested the mold then sent it to P&K Microbiology Services, Inc., the test results came back MASSIVE Stachybotrys Chartarum. Our stuff has now been in the apartment for 4 months. They plastered over the mold and now they just replaced the drywall, when they did this they left the bathroom door open letting mold spores into the rest of the apartment. I am not the only tenant with black mold, but the only one with documentation and a lawyer. Do I have to throw all of my things away? Should I have my son toxicity levels tested? We both became very ill when staying there and were unable to breathe, my son was at the doctor's at least once every week and is still having problems even though we no longer stay there. Please help!

Thank You,
Kristen

Hard to say without seeing the toxicology report, but I would try vacuuming everything with a Hepa Vac if there was no mold present in the room where your furniture was.

Wipe everything else down well and keep them dry. There is mold present everywhere. Buy an ionic air purifier that will pull the particles out of the air.

You should be just fine. Test the new home and make sure that you are not moving into another trap!

We've just gone through pretty much the same exact thing. We were only in our apartment 4 months and all of us have been very ill since.

Turns out there was a mold "garden" underneath the lino flooring ... in the kitchen and both bathrooms. The mold under the lino was Stachy ... and there are 4 layers of lino piled on top of each other. Under each layer is healthy stachy running the entire length of the floor.

They have been covering the mold over and over again. There are also 6 other toxic molds found throughout the apartment.

My advice ... get new stuff. It is SO HARD to get stachy spores out of anything. One spore of stachy can create a nightmare in the right conditions.

This is just my opinion ... but I've read several articles on the remediation process and have come to that conclusion.

Go to Mold-Help.org for a ton of info. There is also a Yahoo Group called "Sick Buildings" that is truly helpful.

I wish you the best of luck.
