Anonymous Unregistered

I need help in doing something with my present countertops.
I have white ceramic tile in the kitchen - big mistake, always
dirty grout. Any solutions other than removing it entirely or
if removed can the formica countertop beneath be restored?
Is there a way to fill in the grout areas to make smooth and\
seal and paint it all?
Thanks,
Nelwyn

Refinish for a fraction of the cost.

Here's our DIY Refinishing section.

Ok, so there is a way to paint over the existing white tile -
but what about the grout - can it be filled in and make the
counter top smooth?

thanks,
Nelwyn

If you paint over the caulking, it will seal it.

I like to remove the caulking first with a Dremel tool.

Grout removing tools work just as well.

There is a fast drying caulk to use after the refinishing is complete, but I can't remember the name of it.

I'll look in the work van.!~

This is a perfect situation where the results may be acceptable. It all depends on your expectations. Unfortunately, the painted tile and grout fixes I've seen look exactly like that, painted tile and grout. This can freshen up some bad tile and grout but only for a short term. The paint no matter how good it is, will eventually chip and scratch and maybe sooner if people aren't careful with the food chopping and cutting. The formica top is non recoverable.
