#1668 - 01/24/07 11:50 AM room addition/gas line concerns
Anonymous Unregistered

I am thinking of having a room added to my house. I noticed that the natural gas line enters into the house at the area i would plan to have the room placed. Is this a concern? I'm assuming it would be a simple re-routing of the gas line by a qualified professional and not a show stopper, but I have no idea as to a ballpark figure to say, route this natural gas line around the perimeter of the new room (80ft). As i am new to all this, i have no idea if this is a hundreds of dollar job or near impossible/time consuming etc. Any insight would be appreciated.

My first impression is to call the Gas Company and have them flag the gas lines for you.

FREE SERVICE!

Ask them how deep the line is buried to the main and ask them the questions you just asked here.

Gas is normally buried pretty deep and it could be a non issue to the meter. If the line needs to be re-routed from the main to the meter, the gas company owns that and they will be able to cost it out.

Running gas to the new portion of the house should be a breeze.

If you can get those questions answered, let me know and we can help further.

A licenced gas fitter can re-route your line. Cost is difficult to determine without seeing the job. If it can be done in less than a day I estimate the cost would be between $500 and $800 plus materials.
