I need help getting black moldy caulk out of my kid's bathroom. I want to do it myself, but have never done anything like this before.

Tell me a little more. Is it the tub surround you're talking about, if so what is it made of?....ceramic tile or arborite or acrylic/fiberglass or marble or.....? Is it the grout you're talking about? and the method is often dictated by how bad the mold is. Is it the ceiling or just the whole room? Often scrubing down with TSP and a brush will work. There are also mold cleaners available. If the mold is deep into the grout, scraping it with a metal tool may work. If so you will need to apply a sealer on the grout after cleaning it. If it's just on the walls and ceiling, washing with soap and water with a little bleach can work wonders.

Removing caulk / grout:

You can use a utility knife at an angle and score both sides of caulk line so you're able to pull away the caulk from the tile surface.
If you are removing grout, you can use a grout removal tool. It will have a triangular shaped tip at the end.
You can also use a Dremel tool. Dremel makes a tip attachment made specifically for grout removal.

Once the caulk / grout is fully removed, then comes the cleaning. Brush out any debris and wipe clean with a baking soda and vinegar mix in warm water.

Apply caulk / Re-grout
