When building an outside deck 20 x 20,
18 inches high, with compressed wood for the finish top decking, what size concrete columns would be best, how many, and what distance apart? The deck will be attached to the house on two of the four sides. So, I'm thinking pour columns every 6.66 ft.

And, then, what size beams would work best, and how many would you use? I am planning on using 12 inch center joists, 2 x 8 each.

Take a gander at the tables section for beam sizes and distance calculations.

Using my span tables, if you cantilever the joists 2 feet over the beam you will need 2x12's on 12" centers with bridging and strapping. The clear span for posts can about 8'8" which means for 3 posts cantilever the beam ends about 15". The beam should be 4 2x10's which will fit nicely over a 6x6 post.
Keep in mind that span tables for your area may be different. Also check the local authorities for info on concrete pillar construction.
