There is condensation on the celing of my porch and I would like to know how to illiminate it. The porch ceiling is exposed 2x6 rafters, 1/2 inch plywood underlayment, ice dam material and 30 year archetectural shingles. I plan to keep the porch ceiling vaulted.

I expect I will have to provide venting for outside air in the rafter bays; to include prop vent, insulation, and wood or sheetrock to the porch ceiling. My concern is that even with standard venting, doesn't condensation still collect on the plywood roof underlayment as the cool air passes through each bay of the roof between the prop vent and the roof sheathing? Will 2X6 rafters hold enough insulation to prevent moisture buildup if the porch is not mechically heated (natural solar heat does warm the porch at times in hte winter. Can you help explain? Thank you.

If you are going to insulate the vaulted ceiling, you will need to privide ventilation between the insulation and the underside of the roof sheeting. With proper insulation for your climate and venting, condensation should be eliminated. Creating an air barrier for the ceiling is the ultimate for preventing condensation. With a perfect air barrier even ventilation isn't necessary but that is hard to do. An air barrier means that the moisture laden warm air is unable to get thru the insulation to the sheeting.
