I have a 20 year old home with cedar deck and trim in excellent condition. It's stained dark and has a preservative put on every two years. I want to change the color to a lighter one and would prefer not to paint the wood. Is it possible to lighten a stained wood? If I must paint over the stain, what products would you suggest?

difficult to go from dark to light unless it's a solid stain. Depending on the condition of the stain and wood, you may get better results with a light sanding.
