hi, I was hoping you could help..

I want to partition off a section of my bottom floor. When I attach the framing to the exsisting wall/ceiling, should I cut away the original drywall for the new wall to fit, or can I just sandwich the drywall that's there.

Any help is appreciated

As long as you can fasten to something like a stud or plate or joist or cross blocking shouldn't be a problem. This is just a partition wall, not a bearing wall. Make sure you know where your pipes and wiring are so as to avoid them.

that's what I was hoping to hear, thanks!

as an Ironworker, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to this stuff. I took a stud finder to the wall and ceiling, and it looks like I'll hit stud/joist the whole way around. I just may pull this off(:

thanks again
