Anonymous Unregistered

we are replacing some of the deck boards. our deck boards are running on an angle and we are having quite a time trying to figure out how to measure and figure the angles when cutting a board to fit around the posts especially when both ends of the board go around the posts. my husband would kill me if he knew i posted this but i can't deal with him anymore! LOL

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you….was away in Southern Ontario across the river from Detroit to a college re-union.

There are many different types of angle finders available and you can even make your own from 2 pieces of straight, flat wood by bolting them together at the ends allowing you to move them into various angle positions.

You can also place the new board along side the posts in place and mark it accordingly or take a straight edge to follow the angles and project your lines. A tape measure will help you mark your notches as well.

To do the cut-outs it's sometimes best to use a hand saw then a sharp chisel to complete the notch. In the area to be cut out, put a number of cuts which makes it easier to notch with a chisel.

It’s always much easier to show someone in person but we don’t have that luxury…..so best of luck.
