#1386 - 06/19/05 11:50 PM Possible Mold in the Attic on Sheathing
Anonymous Unregistered

i am looking to buy a house that during the inspection the inspector found a black possible mold on the sheathing where the bathroom ceiling comes up into the attic. We found the builder never put a vent fan above the shower/ jaccuzzi tub and between the ceiling of the bathroom and the roof in the attic the cavaties of the roof joists are stuffed with insulation. I had a roofer come to look at it and he proposed to cut out the sheathing on the roof, take out the insulation and put foam shoots in to allow more air flow into the attic and have a vent fan installed to pull the moisture up out of the bathroom to the outside. My concern is that once the sheathing has been cut out removing the possible mold substance that the sheet rock may also have the black mold on it. For 9 years the moisture from the bathroom has risen to the top of the cathedral ceiling and has had no where to go, although by looking at the drywall it does not seem to be damaged. Will putting the foam shoots in between the ceiling and the roof and cutting out the infected sheathing and replacing it with new sheathing and installing a vent fan cure the problem? and it is possible that the drywall in the attic have mold on it too?
