We are planning to build a deck or have one built. The question is wood deck, stone, or pavers? We have a French drain in the area where we would want a deck. Is it possible to have a stone or paved deck in the same area as the drain or would a wood deck be a better choice?

Need more info or photos about the site to give an opinion.

An important difference is pavers would be at grade level while a wood deck would be raised.

How high above the ground level is your door threshold?

Is the ground level or does it drop off?

etc, etc.......

The yard is pretty level except for a slight grading toward the house. The house has a slab foundation. There is a small concrete porch (one level, no steps) off the back door. The threshold of the door is approximately 6"-8" from the ground. Thank you for your reply.

From what you describe, your best option is go with a patio made of pavers or concrete. Your door threshold is too low for a deck.
Hope this helps.
