i am tearing down an old deck and building a new on from the ground up i was curious if u recommend putting concrete piers in the ground or if i could get away with using concrete blocks on the ground my deck will be 2 foot off the ground and the dirt below is virgin.

There are always a number of factors to consider when building a deck or any structure.

Sounds like your understanding is pretty good.

Being only 2 feet off the ground answers a lot of my questions. It is not as critical to pin the posts at the base because the likelihood of a post being knocked out is remote.

Of course we always build to overkill and would pin these posts anyway because there are things such as earthquakes at the back of your mind.

Using blocks in this case will probably work just fine.
