Anonymous Unregistered

Hi, I am planning on building an outdoor grill. I don't want to spend a heap of money, so I was going to construct the majority of it out cinder blocks and fill them. My main question is what are some choices for lining the 'hearth'. I don't know if that is the right word. What should I use to line the area where the fire for grilling will lit. Firebrick is very expensive in my area and was wondering if there was any lower cost altnernatives. I would just leave it concrete but would be concerned with spalling.

Any assistance would be great.

Thanks

Being an outside grille means you have lots of latitude on how you can build it.

You can use most any type of brick but they may tend to crack from the heat. I would look for some old used clay brick which may be purchased for 30 or 40 cents apiece. These stand up well to heat because most were fired at high heat when made.
