I have some real #@!holes harrassing me with really loud car stereos and the police are impotent or unwilling to stop this. It is the low frequency that is the most problem. This is an old house with wooden single pain windows, I have a number of sheets of silver backed insolation board for exterior framing available to me, I know about maybe two layers of sheet rock, are there any other low cost ways to insulat your walls from outside noise. Thanks

I can sympathize with you. Low frequency can even make concrete vibrate. Tough to fight but there are some things that can be done to help reduce it. Of course the quickest and cheapest way is to get the cops to help but no way here.

I would start with those wood frame single pane windows. If you can afford it, put on some outside or inside storm windows. These are great for insulating against sound even better than thermopane windows because they insulate the whole frame. Sound transfers through wood quite well.

If the exterior walls are not insulated, this insul-board you have could be used but whether you use it on the inside or outside, you have the problem or expense of putting a finish over it. You could start by putting it on the wall closest to the noise.

WIsh I had some easier suggestions for you.

Good luck!
