I am the owner of a house built in 1949 in southern Virginia. I am currently looking to refurbish the original wood windows and was wondering if I could find someone to sell me low-e or double insulated in panes of 3"x5". If this is not possible would it be advisable to coat each pane with a UV type coating? I would really like to do this myself as labor fees for all the windows would be outrageous.

3" x 5" double panes would probably not only be very difficult to make but would not be cost effective.

If you need to keep these windows I might suggest you look into either outside or inside storm windows. Much more efficient and not too difficult to install. You may have difficulty finding some though but check around.
