Thanks to the recent rainfall our apartment has flooded repeatedly during the past month and a half. It looks like the rain had been getting into the wall inside our apartment (not just the outside walls) and then seeped out through the bottom of the walls into out aparment.
The apartment manager has had our padding replaced, and the carpets steam cleaned after each flood and they've been trying to fix the problem, but they haven't tested for mold. After this recent flood there is noticeable musty/moldy smell to the apartment and we've noticed that the base board and dry wall on one wall has rotted to the point where a pen can be pushed through the wood and sheetrock with very little force.
We're extremely worried that there is mold inside of the wall, are we being paranoid here? We brought this up to the apartment manager who said they could not test for mold until things had dried out, is this true? At this point we're still living in the apartment and they haven't offered to move us out.
So I'd like to get the apartment checked as soon as possible, is it expensive to have it tested for mold? The apartment manager doesn't seem to be in any hurry to test for mold and I'm extremely worried about our health. Also does anyone know what rights we have in this situation? I know they're working to rememdy the situation, but in the mean time we've dealt with soaked carpet, a disgusting odor and all of our furniture stacked up in our living room and stored in an empty apartment across the hall.

I would reccommend (sp?) using a DIY Mold Test Kit to see if you have mold of the toxic variety.

You can find them on the site at http://www.startremodeling.com/toxic_black_mold_test_kit.htm or you can try to find them at a local Home Depot!

Instructions and brochure can be found on our site at the above URL!
