#1252 - 02/22/05 12:12 PM Window in Bathroom a Sponge
Anonymous Unregistered

I am helping a friend out with a remod of the Bathroom. They have an octagonal window that is partially in the Shower and has now become a sponge. The window was put in 5 years ago and at that time they treated the unfinished wood with Marine varnish. Apparently this did not work as expected as the window Frame (moulding) is as soft as a sponge. Is there a special type of window that we should look at to replace this one?

Thanks for any advise

Michael

Sounds like this window location is bad to begin with. If it must be there, I would consider using a vinyl window. All you need to do is wipe it down once in a while otherwise you may get mold growth. You want to make sure no water is getting behind the window frame into the wall by caulking it well.

Often a bad situation can be made to work with proper detailing.
