HELPFUL DIY TIPS - AROUND THE HOUSE
**Switch-plate paint record
After painting a room, use the reverse side of a switch plate to record the color of paint you used. This serves as an easy
reference for you or for the next owner when touch-ups become necessary.

** Pillowcase does diaper duty
An easy way to add personality to a nursery and save money at the same time is to use a brightly colored or patterned pillowcase as a mattress-pad cover for a diaper-changing table. A queen- or king-size case fits perfectly in most instances and you won’t need to buy the more expensive plain white mattress covers.

** Spackle with soap
If you don’t have any spackling compound to fill nail holes before painting and you don’t have time to make a trip to the hardware store, grab a bar of white soap. Just rub the bar over the holes to fill them in. Let the soap harden, and then paint over the holes.

** Floss fixes glasses
When you lose a screw from your glasses, forget using a safety pin for a quick fix. A much safer and less conspicuous solution can be achieved with dental floss. Loop the floss two or three times through the holes, and tie it tightly in a knot. Your glasses will be temporarily mended, and it will be less obvious that they are in need of repair.

** Out-of-sight litter box
Do you love your cat but hate her litter box? It can become an unsightly mess in any room. A great way to conceal a litter box is to remove the cupboard doors underneath the sink in a bathroom, hanging a small curtain in their place. Put the litter box under the sink, along with a mat to collect litter from kitty’s paws. Your cat will enjoy her privacy, and you will keep the eyesore out of sight.

** Credit card protection
Losing your billfold or wallet, or having it stolen, can be a terrible and inconvenient experience. To provide yourself with a simple record of all of your bank and credit cards, photocopy both sides of the cards and keep them in a safe place. Then you will have all of the necessary contact numbers and information in case you have to notify the companies about a loss or theft.
