HELPFUL DIY TIPS – AROUND THE HOUSE
**Switch-plate paint record
After painting a room, use the reverse side of a switch plate to record the color of paint you used. This serves as an easy
reference for you or for the next owner when touch-ups become necessary.
Babs Babbitt Grand Rapids, Mich.
** Pillowcase does diaper duty
An easy way to add personality to a nursery and save money at the same time is to use a brightly colored or patterned pillowcase as a mattress-pad cover for a diaper-changing table. A queen- or king-size case fits perfectly in most instances and you won’t need to buy the more expensive plain white mattress covers.
Carole Church Prove, Utah
** Spackle with soap
If you don’t have any spackling compound to fill nail holes before painting and you don’t have time to make a trip to the hardware store, grab a bar of white soap. Just rub the bar over the holes to fill them in. Let the soap harden, and then paint over the holes.
Sue Wiener Spring Hill, Fla.
** Floss fixes glasses
When you lose a screw from your glasses, forget using a safety pin for a quick fix. A much safer and less conspicuous solution can be achieved with dental floss. Loop the floss two or three times through the holes, and tie it tightly in a knot. Your glasses will be temporarily mended, and it will be less obvious that they are in need of repair.
Linda Baker Summerville, S.C.
** Out-of-sight litter box
Do you love your cat but hate her litter box? It can become an unsightly mess in any room. A great way to conceal a litter box is to remove the cupboard doors underneath the sink in a bathroom, hanging a small curtain in their place. Put the litter box under the sink, along with a mat to collect litter from kitty’s paws. Your cat will enjoy her privacy, and you will keep the eyesore out of sight.
Jennifer Kirk Scottsdale, Ariz.
** Credit card protection
Losing your billfold or wallet, or having it stolen, can be a terrible and inconvenient experience. To provide yourself with a simple record of all of your bank and credit cards, photocopy both sides of the cards and keep them in a safe place. Then you will have all of the necessary contact numbers and information in case you have to notify the companies about a loss or theft.

TOXIC BLACK MOLD EDUCATION AND SOLUTIONS
** Unfortunately, the Winter season is no help when it comes to mold attacking your home. Mold grows anywhere that dark and dank conditions occur and the cooler temperatures don’t always dry these areas out ( humidity in basements can be a nightmare), allowing the mold to grow and become potentially hazardous to you and your family’s health.
We have some great new articles and services available on the site to give you more information, show you how to eliminate
molds and we cover many other educational issues that could help you in the fight against toxic molds.
